Project Description

ELABORATION:

Convento San Francisco Primer año 2023 was created from vineyards of the Tempranillo grape variety within the Controlled DO area of Ribera del Duero, within the municipalities of Pesquera del Duero, Quintana del Pidio, Gumiel de Izán and Fuentenebro at an average altitude of 900 metres. The various soil types are composed of sand with gravel, red clay and limestone with pebbles. The parcels are found along the hillsides and meadows near the meandering Duero river.
After the alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for eleven months in Bordeaux barrels of 500 and 225 litres, made from French and American Oak.

METEROLOGY:

The 2023 vintage began with a winter with higher temperatures than normal, the beginning of the year was cooler with minimum temperatures on average of 2ºC.
Spring followed with more typical weather for the region, with similar minimum temperatures but slightly higher maximum temperatures. Summer was slightly warmer than normal, with higher than average minimum temperatures. September was ideal, the month of ripening, with slightly higher temperatures than we would have liked. After continuous analysis of the grapes, we decided to start the harvest at the end of September.
The harvest took place between the 29th September and the 12th October, in climatically favourable conditions.
The vintage is characterised as offering wines with excellent aromatic intensity and good freshness thanks to the warmth of the meteorological conditions, with a marked personality that reflects the uniqueness of the year and the Terroir.
